A Horse for the Heart by Jo Anne Barnes and Dana Crigger (DVM) is a heartwarming middle-grade novel (ages 9–12) about Stacy, a determined young equestrian who dreams of taming the wild Appaloosa for sale at her riding center. Her mother initially says no, but Stacy’s soon-to-be stepfather, David, steps in to help—on one condition: Stacy must train the unruly gelding by the end of summer to prove she’s capable. Overcoming challenges, building trust, and demonstrating responsibility, Stacy strives to show her family—and herself—that she’s ready for the horse of her heart.
