Write Like a Pony!

Now that you know how to write a friendly letter, it’s time to add some imagination! In this lesson, you’ll pretend you’re a pony and write a letter from your stable, pasture, or show stall. Writing from a pony’s point of view helps you practice storytelling while learning to think about what life might be like through a horse’s eyes.

Imagine Life as a Pony

Close your eyes and picture where your pony lives. Do you see a big red barn, a cozy stall full of hay, or maybe a sunny pasture with lots of grass?

Now, think about what a pony might write about:

  • What happened today at the barn?
  • Who are your pony’s best friends?
  • What’s their favorite treat — carrots, apples, or peppermints?
  • Did something funny, exciting, or new happen this week?

Writing like a pony lets you use your imagination and creativity — you can even give your pony a personality! Maybe they’re brave and curious, or maybe they’re a little mischievous and love sneaking treats.

How to Write Like a Pony

When you write from a pony’s point of view, you’ll use “I” to tell the story — as if you are the pony.

Dear Pumpkin,

I had a very busy day today! My rider brushed me until my coat was shiny, and then we practiced trotting over poles. I was so proud that I didn’t knock a single one down. After our ride, I got two peppermints — my favorite treat!

See how the letter follows the same parts you learned in Lesson 2 — greeting, body, closing, and signature — but it’s written as if Cupid the pony is talking!
