Parts of a Friendly Letter
Now that you know what letter writing is all about, it’s time to learn how to build one! Every friendly letter has a few important parts that help the reader understand who it’s from, who it’s to, and what it’s about. Once you know these, you can write letters to anyone — your friends, your family, or even your favorite pony!
The Building Blocks of a Great Letter
A friendly letter usually includes four main parts:
Greeting
This is how you say hello! It starts your letter in a friendly way and lets the reader know who you’re talking to.
Example: “Dear Pepper,” or “Hi Rosie!”
Body
This is the main part of your letter — where you tell your story, share news, or ask questions. You can write about your day, your pony’s adventures, or what you’ve been learning at the barn.
Example: “I had a fun ride today! We practiced trotting over poles, and I think Catch was very proud of himself.”
Closing
This is how you wrap things up before you sign your name. A good closing makes your letter feel warm and complete.
Example: “Your friend,” “Love,” “From the barn,” or “Happy riding!”
Signature
This is where you sign your name to show who the letter is from.
