Meet the Main Leg Markings
Here are the most common horse leg markings you’ll see.

Coronet
A coronet is a thin white band right above the hoof. It almost looks like the horse is wearing a bracelet around its hoof.

Pastern
A pastern marking goes higher than a coronet and covers the pastern area above the hoof.
If the white goes part of the way up the pastern, it is called a half pastern marking.

Sock
A sock reaches up over the fetlock to about the middle of the cannon bone.

Stocking
A stocking goes higher than a sock and reaches close to the knee or hock. Stockings are tall leg markings.
