Horses Come in Different Colors
Before we start naming horse colors, let’s look carefully and notice horses aren’t all the same color.
Some look similar at first glance, and some look very different. Learning horse colors starts with observing, not memorizing.
That’s what horse people do.
What Is a Horse Color?
A horse’s color is the color of its coat which is the hair that covers its body.
We use horse color words to:
- Describe horses
- Tell horses apart
- Talk about the horses seen in books, pictures, or real life
Look Closely
Take a look at the horses below.
Ask yourself:
Are they the same color or different?
Does one look darker or lighter?
Are their manes and tails the same color as their bodies?
There are many horse colors in the world.
In this course, we’ll start with just four that you’ll see most often.
