The Walk
The Walk: The Slowest Gait
The walk is a 4-beat gait, which means the horse’s feet hit the ground one at a time, like this:
In the walk, no two feet move together.

Right hind → Right front → Left hind → Left front
(or the reverse)
Pepper moves with steady rhythm:
- Her head gently nods
- Her tail swishes calmly
- Her breathing stays soft
This is her favorite warm-up gait.
Why the Walk Is Calm & Balanced
Horses walk when they:
- Warm up their muscles
- Explore new areas
- Relax or think
- Move quietly in a herd
Pepper loves the walk. It’s slow, smooth, and feels like a gentle sway.
